Trends in 2020
By The Viera Builders Content Team

Trends in 2020: It's a new decade, and most of us are ready to ring in the New Year and say good-bye to home & interior trends, that let's face it- are just so yesterday! Our homes are our haven, and wellness, livability, and sustainability are recognized as a continuing trend. Fitting into that thought is incorporating natural light, proper lighting, fitness areas, meditation zones, and classic, timeless design elements.

OUT: It's going to be a tough separation, but we bid adios to the all-white kitchen, single-use rooms, and marble and granite countertops. We will be drop-kicking monochromatic paint schemes, and those tonal gray rooms will soon be awash in bold colors and patterns. The industrial farmhouse style is over, and faux plants have finally met their demise. The sort of temporary, Ikea inspired lifestyle has left many seeking more permanency in choice, a greener way of living.

IN:  Black is back, and it's bolder than ever. You'll find this color mixed with the classic white, adorning cabinets, hardware, and most luxuriously on interior doors and trim. After a much-deserved hiatus, wallpaper has returned. We will see bold botanicals, lush florals, and geometric prints. The newly discovered fifth wall, AKA, the ceiling will be getting the attention it has always craved. Don't be surprised to look up and see wallpaper overhead. While this new era ushers in a green, sustainable mindset, it has left the color experts feeling blue. Sherwin Williams selected Naval for 2020, a rich and brooding shade meant to promote confidence, stability, and connection. And, according to Pantone, a leader in predicting retail color trends, you will soon be seeing shades of Classic Blue in accessories and home furnishings. It's quartz over granite, but we will see beautiful, maintenance-free porcelain slab countertops mixed with a wide plank; wire brushed white oak flooring, reigning supreme. Make every square foot count is the twenty-twenty mantra. We are sneaking meditation zones in loft spaces, and understair space has gone from forgotten storage to wine niches, sure to impress the neighbors.

Home Style: The kitchen still holds the heart of a home, and our floor plans reflect large spaces for family dining replacing formal dining spaces. Gourmet kitchens with 36" cooktops, dual fuel cooktops, built-in countertop depth refrigeration, steam ovens, and microwave drawers offer everyone the opportunity to whip up a 5-star meal. We've replaced formal living rooms with flex spaces, where homeowners can personalize to suit their needs. Laundry rooms are turning into multifunctional spaces with plenty of cabinets to store those holiday platters, room for craft tables, and even Fido amenities like pet washing stations. In keeping with increased livability, bringing the indoors out is increasingly popular. With 12' cascading sliders, it's easy to increase your entertainment space and enjoy more of the outdoors, all within the comfort of home. Twenty-twenty will see our homes getting smarter with the introduction of our "Thoughtful Home." You can now set your interior temperature, dim the lights, and even open your garage, all on your Smartphone. There's also a solution for kids spending too much time playing video games; we have introduced technology that allows you to disable individual internet connections all controlled by a smart device.
